Pink Magazine Cover and Feature

So, a thing happened.

Back in April, as i was toiling in Russia visiting my sister’s funeral, I received a text. “Hello, I am an art director of the Pink magazine and we’d love to feature your painting on our June cover”.

Pink is a local publication of good quality writing and they traditionally feature local artists on their covers. Women artists specifically, being women’s magazine and all. Countless times I looked at their issues in local coffee shops, thinking “When would it be my turn?”

Turns out, my turn was in June of 2026. And I really needed that. Devastated by grief and brutal reality of my war-torn motherland, I was relieved by the news that back home, something is working out. My American life and my art career is finally working out. Things I once only dreamed about were happening.

There was one tiny hiccup though. The artwork they wanted to feature was sold - and I didn’t even bother to photograph it properly before sale.

Luckily, the Pink team were flexible and gave me a week to whip up a new one, similar to the original.

And here she is

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you “Salt&Soul”, a 30x40cm oil painting (roughly 12x16) on coarse Russian Linen canvas.

The art director approved, and only a few weeks later, the cover became a reality. I cannot tell you how surreal it was, to hold a full color vibrant magazine with your artwork on the cover. One of gallery visitors even asked me to sign the magazine for them, which made me feel like a star.

Now the big question:

Can I buy that painting?

Unfortunately, no. She’s already sold the next day we brought her to the gallery. But I do have some prints in my shop.

I can’t express how grateful I am for these events. Art career is full of anxieties: am I doing ok? Will I ever make it? How do i know if making it is happening? At least for the month of June, I was very confident that I am indeed, making it.
