Artist’s Statement
My work consists of representational oil paintings on canvas depicting figures interacting with water. I focus on bodies in water and on finger-drawn marks left in condensation on glass. The imagery originates from photographic material I create myself, combining carefully staged scenes with found moments, like traces left by strangers in public spaces.
My paintings are colorful, with a focus on light and atmospheric effects. I build the surface in layers, working reductively by removing wet paint to reveal fully dried renderings beneath, or employ masking fluid or vinyl stencils. In both approaches, I preserve the original gesture of the finger.
These images form a visual vocabulary for healing and resilience through play. Drawing on Johan Huizinga’s concept of Homo Ludens, which positions play as a foundational element of culture, I understand playfulness as a necessary condition for survival. In my work, play becomes a space where adult consciousness can soften, repair, resist pressure, and grow stronger.
